Tiffany Wall Light Buying Guide

Wall lights add useful layers of light without occupying a table or floor. Their success depends on mounting position: a beautiful fitting placed at an uncomfortable eye level can create glare or feel awkward in the room.

Decide what the wall light must do

In a hallway it may provide safe general illumination. Beside a bed it needs a reachable switch and controlled light. In a living room it can soften dark walls and support ceiling and table lighting.

Choose mounting height by eye level

Rigid height rules are less useful than checking the people and furniture in the space. Temporarily mark the fitting's outline on the wall. From standing and seated positions, the bulb should be screened and the shade should not collide visually with pictures, mirrors or furniture.

Plan spacing

For a pair, measure from architectural features or furniture so the arrangement feels intentional. In a corridor, distribute fittings evenly but account for doors and turns. Beside a bed, position each light for the individual sleeping position rather than simply centring it on the wall.

Check projection

Wall lights extend into the room. In narrow hallways and beside doors, compare the full projection with the available clearance. Make sure shades cannot be struck by cupboards or moving furniture.

Choose useful brightness

Coloured glass softens light, and dense colours transmit less than pale glass. Check lumens, bulb cap, maximum wattage and bulb dimensions. Warm-white LEDs around 2700K generally produce a comfortable stained-glass glow.

Installation and switching

Confirm whether the fitting is hard-wired, switched at the wall or includes a local control. Plan wiring before decorating. Installation should follow the product instructions and current electrical requirements; use a qualified electrician where appropriate.
