Tiffany Pendant Light Buying Guide
A pendant should suit the area beneath it, provide useful light and leave comfortable clearance. With stained glass, colour and bulb output also affect how bright the room feels.
Choose the location first
A pendant over a dining table or island can hang lower because furniture prevents people walking beneath it. In an open hallway or living space, head clearance becomes the priority. Measure the total drop from ceiling rose to the lowest glass edge.
Match the shade to the surface below
Compare the shade diameter with the table or island rather than with the whole room alone. Leave visible space around the fitting so it does not overwhelm the furniture. One larger pendant creates a single focal point; several smaller pendants distribute light along a longer surface.
Plan hanging height
There is no universal height because ceiling level, sightlines and furniture vary. Mock up the lowest point with string before installation. Seated diners should see one another comfortably, and standing users should not look directly into exposed bulbs.
Check brightness
Deeply coloured glass absorbs more light than pale cream or amber. Compare combined lumens, not only wattage. Warm-white LEDs around 2700K usually complement stained glass. Confirm cap type, bulb dimensions, maximum wattage and dimmer compatibility.
Consider ceiling support
Stained-glass shades can be heavier than fabric shades. The ceiling fixing and supplied hardware must be suitable. Installation should follow product instructions and applicable electrical requirements; use a qualified electrician where appropriate.

- Shade diameter relative to furniture.
- Head clearance and seated sightlines.
- Bulb count, lumens and colour temperature.
