Tiffany Lighting for Dining Rooms
A dining-room fitting is both practical light and a visual centre above the table. The right Tiffany light should illuminate faces and food comfortably without blocking conversation or overpowering the furniture.
Use the table as the reference
Measure table length and width, then compare them with the shade or group of fittings. A single pendant suits a compact or round table; a longer table may work better with a multi-light fitting or several smaller pendants. Leave clear visual space around the light.
Test the hanging height
Hang a temporary marker at the proposed lowest point. Sit at every place setting and check sightlines across the table. The fitting should feel connected to the table but not obstruct faces or expose bright bulbs directly.
Plan useful brightness
Stained glass colours and softens light. Pale amber and cream usually transmit more than dense red, blue or purple. Check total lumens from all bulbs and combine the pendant with other room lighting rather than making one fitting excessively bright.
Consider dimming
Dimming allows brighter light for serving and cleaning, then softer light for a relaxed meal. Both LED bulbs and the dimmer must be compatible. Use matching bulbs in multi-light fittings to maintain even colour and output.
Coordinate rather than match
Repeat one or two colours from upholstery, curtains, artwork or timber. A geometric shade can bring order to a room with patterned textiles; a floral design creates a stronger focal point in a simpler dining space.
Add layers
Wall, console or floor lamps soften the room beyond the table and reduce contrast. Keep their bulbs screened from seated diners. Separate switching makes the room adaptable.
