Tiffany Ceiling Light Installation Planning Guide
Good installation starts before any electrical work. Confirm dimensions, weight, support, clearance and access while the fitting can still be exchanged or adjusted.
Check the product dimensions
Record shade diameter and total drop, including ceiling rose, chain or rod and the lowest decorative point. Compare these measurements with doors, furniture, walkways and seated sightlines.
Confirm the fitting weight
Stained-glass shades may be heavier than fabric shades. The ceiling structure and fixing method must be suitable for the complete fitting, not only the glass. Do not assume an existing hook or bracket is adequate.
Inspect the installation location
Note ceiling material, slope, decorative plasterwork and access above the ceiling where relevant. A sloping ceiling may require compatible suspension hardware. Discuss unusual conditions with the installer before work begins.
Plan the final height
Use a string or cardboard mock-up to test the lowest point. Protect head clearance in open routes and check views across dining tables or islands. Confirm whether the supplied suspension can be shortened or adjusted.
Allow for bulb access
Make sure bulbs can be replaced and the shade cleaned without dismantling surrounding furniture. Check bulb cap, dimensions, maximum wattage and whether dimming is required.
Electrical safety
Hard-wired ceiling fittings should be installed in accordance with the product instructions and applicable electrical requirements. Use a qualified electrician where appropriate. Do not rely on wire colours, old connections or online diagrams as proof that an existing circuit is suitable.
Before the installer arrives
- Confirm all parts and glass sections are present and undamaged.
- Provide product instructions and fitting weight.
- Agree the final drop and orientation.
- Choose compatible bulbs and dimmer if required.
- Clear safe access beneath the work area.
