Tiffany Wall Light Installation Planning Guide
Good wall-light placement is decided before the electrician arrives. Height, spacing, shade projection and the position of existing wiring all affect whether a Tiffany wall light feels comfortable or becomes an obstacle.
Decide what the light needs to do
A hallway fitting mainly supports safe movement, a bedside wall light needs accessible control, and a living-room fitting may provide atmosphere. Define the purpose first because it influences height, bulb output and whether light should fall upward, downward or in both directions.
Measure from the finished floor
Do not copy one universal height. Consider eye level, ceiling height, nearby furniture and the direction of the shade opening. Mark the proposed fitting outline on the wall and view it while standing and seated. The bulb should not produce uncomfortable direct glare from normal positions.
Check projection and clearance
Record the distance from the wall to the outermost part of the shade. In a narrow hallway or beside a doorway, even a modest projection matters. Allow clearance from curtains, shelves, cabinet doors and pictures, and make sure the shade can be removed for cleaning or bulb replacement.
Plan pairs and repeated fittings
When two lights frame a bed, mirror or fireplace, measure from a central reference and account for the visual width of each shade. In a long hall, space fittings in relation to doors and architectural features rather than dividing the wall mechanically into equal parts.
Confirm the wiring position
The backplate must cover the electrical point and suit the wall construction. Existing wiring may restrict the final location; moving it can require additional work. A qualified electrician should confirm cable routes, earthing, switching, bathroom zones where relevant, and whether the wall can support the fitting.
Choose bulbs after placement
Check the lamp-holder type, maximum rating, bulb dimensions and expected lumens. Warm-white LEDs often complement stained glass, but dimming requires compatible lamps and controls. Never use a bulb that touches the shade or exceeds the manufacturer's rating.
Before installation
- Mark the full fitting outline and projection.
- Check glare from standing and seated eye levels.
- Allow shade and bulb access.
- Confirm backplate size and wall support.
- Have electrical work completed and tested by a qualified electrician.
